Team WissensSpuren
The initial idea for the WissensSpuren emerged from discussions between Prof Vollmer and his friends and colleagues in science and civil society, and it was implemented with the first batch of graduates of the Certificate Program “Action Competence for Sustainable Development”.
Jürgen Vollmer — Management and Tours

a pro(f) with a passion for analyzing, running, and tinkering with complex systems
I turned my fascination for complex systems into my profession — and, alongside my work, I always made time for water sports, culture, and literature. In Leipzig, I am the head of the “Complex Systems” research group at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Leipzig University, the coordinator of the International Physics Study Program (IPSP), and the deputy head of the INSPIRATA. Some enthusiastic IPSP students created an Instagram Hashtag #ProfVollmer where you can learn more about me.
Krisnendu Majumdar — Tech Support

always on a lookout for new opportunities and a chance to grow
I consider myself to be deeply motivated by technology. Currently, I am studying in the Bachelor’s International Physics program at the University of Leipzig. Having some prior coding experiences in web development, I got involved in the Tech support of the Leipziger Wissenspuren. I also take interest in the physical analysis of neural networks, reinforcement learning and other fields such as transformers.
Louisa Becker — Social Media

our manager for marketing and outreach to the virtual world
I am a Bachelor’s student at Leipzig University in the International Physics Study Program (IPSP), and I presently explore the foundations of tropospheric physics. Moreover, I volunteer as an exhibition guide and workshop instructor at the INSPIRATA, where I am also engaged in the volunteer’s council. Through these experiences, I have discovered how much I enjoy sharing scientific knowledge in an engaging and interesting way.
During my holidays I like traveling, and I frequently visit museums and tourist attractions. I am always delighted to advance my percipience of Leipzig’s cultural and artistic offers.

Michel Michalkow — Map Man

a human for maps and other antics
I neglect the daily fight against entropy to explore my environment or ideas. For this project I’ve contributed mainly technical work: maps, website support, etc., and I am using the opportunity to test new technologies and methods for knowledge management and transfer.
As a child of Leipzig, I am also enjoying deeply to see the city from new perspectives and listening to some hardcore history.

Mika Titze — Linguistic & Editorial Officer

Schrödingers’s Editor: Both finished and unfinished until observed
From a young age, I have always been very interested in furthering my education in a variety of different fields. Currently, I am a student at Leipzig University in the International Physics Study Program. I was thrilled to enroll in the certificate Competences for Sustainable Development, and even more excited to contribute to set up the WissensSpuren as a capstone project for the certificate. Coming from a small town in Ontario, Canada, it truly is a dream come true to contribute to a larger community here in Leipzig.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing the violin and spending time in nature.

Philippe Issler — Fundraising and Networking support

trying to see the wood and the trees
Always interested in questions about the ultimate reasons for being, I transitioned from studying biology to philosophy. I’m now passionate about a reflection-theoretically grounded social philosophy, from which a new model of democracy can be derived, and I ponder how this idea can be communicated broadly.
I joined the Leipziger WissensSpuren through my work on the joint public lecture series with the studium universale.
When I’m not sitting at my desk racking my brains or hanging out in various libraries, I’m active in the improvisational theater scene, playing on my violin, or just doing nothing at all. (Except thinking, of course!)
